Mindful Community: Nurturing Hope and Resilience in Children and Teens During Troubled Times

March 13 @ 7:00 pm 8:30 pm

Anxiety, depression, and mental health issues continue to rise in both children and adults. Disruptive and disturbing worldwide events, including COVID, intense political divisiveness, anger, mistrust, and the ramifications of the Israeli-Hamas war, have intensified mental health issues. To help children cope with the many challenges they face, it is essential that parents and other caregivers focus on using strategies to nurture hope and resilience in youth as well as in ourselves. In his presentation, Dr. Brooks will describe several of these key strategies, including those that reinforce empathy, compassion, responsibility, self-discipline, and dealing with setbacks. Examples of the use of these strategies will be offered. About Your Speaker, Dr. Brooks: Dr. Robert Brooks in a clinical psychologist on the faculty (part-time) of Harvard Medical School and former Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital. He has lectured nationally and internationally and written extensively about such themes as psychotherapy, motivation, resilience across the lifespan, parenting, and family relationships, and creating a positive school and work environment. He is the author or co-author of 21 books, including Raising Resilient Children; Tenacity in Children: Nurturing the Seven Instincts for Lifetime Success; and The Power of Resilience: Achieving Balance, Confidence, and Personal Strength in Your Life. Dr. Brooks has received many awards for his work, including The Mental Health Humanitarian Award from William James College for his contributions as a clinician, educator, and author, and most recently, the 2023 Trailblazer Award from Worldmaker International in recognition of his contributions “to the field of human resilience, and his innovation in creating new pathways for many.” For additional information visit Dr. Brooks’ website www.drrobertbrooks.com Register here: https://bit.ly/MindfulMar13
