Packathon for Haiti

April 27 @ 9:00 am April 28 @ 12:00 pm

This is a fun event for volunteers, who will work in teams for a two-hour shift, scooping, bagging, weighing, sealing and packing bags of rice, beans, dried vegetables and vitamin powder. There are jobs for all ages and abilities, but children should be at least ten years old. The hall is handicapped accessible. Registration is recommended, but not required. One person may register for up to eight people, so come alone or bring your own team. The food from the packathon is donated to CRUDEM, a nonprofit that runs the Hospital Sacre Coeur in Milot, Haiti, and from there it is distributed to families in need. Shipments are still getting through a port in northern Haiti in spite of the violence and chaos around Port-au-Prince. There is no charge for this event, but there has been a dramatic increase in the cost of the food this year so donations of any amount are most welcome. Checks payable to CRUDEM may be sent to St. Joseph Parish at 1382 Highland Avenue, Needham 02492, or brought to the event. For more information, please contact Ellen Benoit at ebenoit73@verizon.net
