School-Related Anxiety: What Families Should Know

October 7 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Anxiety surrounding school has increased in recent years, particularly in high-achieving communities. Ranging from nervousness before tests to wholesale school refusal, many students are struggling. What are the most effective ways of managing their concerns? What can schools and teachers do to prevent unnecessary anxiety? How can parents approach these sensitive topics with children directly? Are disability accommodations appropriate for anxiety, or do they make the problem worse in the long run? When should a family seek professional psychotherapy? And what if a student has a formal anxiety disorder, or even additional diagnoses, such as ADHD or autism? Dr. Lovett (a Columbia University Professor, Researcher, Author of Overcoming Test Anxiety (2025), and a licensed psychologist). will address these and related issues in an interactive workshop designed specifically for families looking to best support their children.
