A fire broke out Tuesday, June 23 shortly after noon in the kitchen at the McDonald’s restaurant at 340 Chestnut Street in Needham. Crews from the Needham Fire Department responded and found smoke and a fire in the fryolater which they extinguished. No one was injured and employees and patrons safely left the building.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Donald Anastasi, Needham Public Health was notified and will follow up while cleanup is underway and repairs are made. Building Commissioner Jim Sullivan, who was at the scene after the fire had been extinguished, said the use of chemical flame retardants will result in a closure of the restaurant, possibly for several days. Inspections will be done before the McDonald’s begins serving the public again. The fire is under investigation.
