Dear Readers,

It’s been almost six months since we launched the Needham Observer with a handful of volunteers and a mission to restore local, independent journalism to our community. We’ve been greatly encouraged by your positive response and support for our reporting on town issues, people and events.

To keep the Observer a vital, free and growing nonprofit, we are undertaking our first fundraising campaign, and we hope you will participate.

From now through the end of the year we have the opportunity to receive matching funds from the Institute for Nonprofit News. A donation in any amount up to $1,000 will be directly matched, up to a total of $13,000.

We’re excited to build on the work we’ve begun. Our vision is to create a sustainable operation that goes beyond volunteers to include paid staff and support for the next generation of journalists. This campaign will put us on that path, as well as help with our existing operational costs.

Many of you already have donated to the Observer, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity. We hope that more readers who haven’t yet taken that step will join in and help us meet this match. We are a 501c3 nonprofit so your donations are tax deductible.

You can click the donation button below for easy payment by credit card or through PayPal. Or you can send a check to:
