In a director’s report shared with the Park and Recreation Commission June 15, Park and Rec director Stacey Mulroy said they are working with the Department of Public Works to set up test pits for the action/skate park planned near Claxton Field. Mulroy said the test pits are currently being scheduled for construction.

Because the entire action park will be located on ledge from the old quarry, test pits will help clarify subsurface conditions, and identify where structural anchor points can be placed for the park’s construction. Once the test pits are complete, engineering firm Weston & Sampson and action sports experts Pillar Design Studios, will be able to move toward another version of the park, Mulroy said.

Partnering with DPW will help cut future construction costs, said Mulroy.
