Last year was a tough one for the Needham Farmers Market. Their president, who was doing double-duty as their market manager, resigned and they lost their main farm vendor, MacArthur Farm, with the death of Peter MacArthur. So they have decided to take this season off to regroup.

“We’re reorganizing. We’re looking for a market manager and a president and a new farm,” said Market treasurer Vicky Seriy.

In a statement posted online, NFM wrote, “This pause comes at a pivotal time for the organization as we work to strengthen our leadership team, reimagine operations and plan for a sustainable future for the market.”

The Farmers Market has been operating since 2012, setting up on Sundays from mid-June through October in front of Town Hall. Seriy said last year they had fewer vendors and a “drastic decrease” in patrons.

The Market is a nonprofit and receives some financial support from local organizations, including Needham Bank and Farm Credit East. BID-Needham supported the Supplemental Food Assistance program, SNAP, which Seriy said has been successful.

The organization hopes the Farmers Market will return next year. In addition to looking for a new farm, they are also seeking poultry, seafood and bakery vendors. Anyone interested in becoming involved can contact them at needhamfarmersmarket@gmail.com.
