The latest mural in the “From Needham to the World” series will be unveiled Sunday, July 27, at 10 a.m., featuring the life and work of Dr. John Dix Fisher, a founder of the Perkins School for the Blind.

Dr. Fisher was born in Needham in 1797 and became a physician and researcher of medical technology, particularly from France, which at the time was a mecca for medical innovation and where he visited the first school for students with blindness. His many contributions include introducing the stethoscope to the United States.

The mural is located at the corner of Chapel Street and Great Plain Avenue. It is a project of the Needham Revitalization Trust Fund to highlight Needhamites who have changed the world through their lives and work.
